Our school volunteers donate an average of 5,000 hours per school year. Please contact 594-1360 to find out information about the Sequoyah PTA.
PTA
Our Parent Teacher Association is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to serve our children and enhance their education. We are fortunate in that Sequoyah’s PTA, through donations and fundraisers, has a sizable budget and workforce with which to enhance the school. The projects and improvements our PTA is involved with include: Spring Carnival, Book Fair, Sequoyah Scamper fun run, the Pansy Party, publication of the Sequoyah School directory for each family, the Spoleto art festival, Art Masters classroom instruction, providing library volunteers, enhancing information technology, sponsoring the Artist in Residence, improving the school grounds, staffing the school clinic, Destination Imagination, parent education programs and grade level projects, providing professional development funds for teachers, and students scholarships for field trips.
The PTA also provides money for teacher training and workshops. This year alone, Sequoyah Elementary School’s PTA earned $5,160 on membership dues.
The PTA at Sequoyah School is extremely active. Because of their donations of time, energy, and resources, our school is very fortunate to have extra funds to buy needed materials for the students.
PTA Board
Our PTA Board, which meets monthly and includes a staff liaison, provides input in the school’s decision-making process in regard to procedures and fund-raisers. It also participates in task forces that address specific school needs. The PTA has provided funds for items needed by our school such as: new playground equipment, instructional materials, staff development activities, student incentives, staff stipends, and other teacher requests.
Our PTA Board coordinates volunteers for the classrooms, clinic, fundraising events, and other related school events requiring parent volunteers. In addressing the needs of our school, the PTA communicates with our business partners and stakeholders to keep them informed of school activities. Such collaboration contributes to the learning process. When surveyed, 96.8% of parents felt comfortable visiting the school and described the climate as warm and inviting.
